Natures Value.

I have been thinking today, thinking about this planet, the world and how we mistreat it. Nature has given us everything, our lives, wealth, everything we have has come from the landscapes around us. Yet the lack of appreciation is truly apparent. It seems most Humans only value something that has a price on it, a financial worth. They miss the ability to appreciate the fascinating complexity and beauty because it does not have a price tag. The reason it has no value is because it is worth more than any person could ever conceive. It has a worth greater in value than EVERY single corporation on the planet.

Yet still, we will cut it down, burn it, and pollute it.

Humans are supposed to be the most intellectually advanced animals in the world, but isn’t it funny that we are the only ones who are driving ourselves to extinction. Think about what we are doing, because something needs to change and soon.

Neglect.

Too long has it been since my last update, I have been neglecting my blog nearly as much as I have been neglecting myself.

Too little exercise, Too much junk food, a lack of time to relax and simply allowing stress to build up in my life.

Its time for a change. 20 years old. I’m not a teen anymore, time to look at my life and get to work getting to where I want to be. I’m going to be working hard on every aspect of my life over the next year, my career, fitness, mental capacity, intelligence, and breadth of interests. Im going to focus my attentions on some projects I have had in the planning for a few years and get to work producing some stunning photography, writing and more.

Its time to get things in place for the rest of my life. Its time for a change.

Tomorrow.

One should never wish a day away…but right now I can’t wait for tomorrow!

In under 24 hours Ill be on my way to the other side of the world, to a location I have always wanted to visit…The Amazon Rainforest. Into the heart of the Manu national park I will be venturing far from humans into one of the last true wildernesses. I have dreamed of visiting the rainforest since I started out watching wildlife and before my 20th birthday it will be a reality. Excited doesn’t come close!

Hopefully I can keep you all in the loop as it unfolds!

Cheers,

Tom

Books.

I love books, and I’m not afraid to say it.

I have always thought of them as the intellects TV. So much choice…history, stories, adventure, factual; all are of interest to me. The provide inspiration, insight and help us to develop our understanding and personal character. I try and read a least one book a week, one book on a different topic, a chance to open my mind to the wonders of the world.

“A room without books is like a body without a soul.”  ― Marcus Tullius Cicero

The box.

Think outside the box. Such a common phrase yet what does it mean?

In order to understand the parameters of this idea, we first need to establish what the box is. Talking about this idea before, many define the box by their mind… But how can you think outside your mind?

The box is really the comfortable region on your mind, a set of standard thought processes we go through when looking at a problem.

To think outside the box then is to develop a new process of thought. Thinking of a new way to do the same thing.

Calling.

It is not often in modern life we hear about peoples callings. people have jobs, passions, hobbies but callings… less so. I have always loved the natural world, ever since I was little. I did not choose to, I mealy could not escape the wonder of it it. The complexity of biology, the integration in ecosystems, the variety of life. Even now after studying it for many years, being able to observe it and even understand it, I’m blown away. Sharing the beauty of the natural world is all I wan’t to do. Be it through my photography, video, writing or word of mouth, I need to inspire others to understand the value of what we have on our planet.

“Look deep into nature, and then you will understand everything better.” ― Albert Einstein

Wise words from a wise man. One day hopefully I too can inspire an generation to protect the value of our planet, not for resources or wealth but just due to the pure beauty of it.

Look within.

In life if we wan’t to learn and improve looking inside ourselves is often more important than reviewing the work of others. One of my problems in the past has been my attitude to things I am good at. I have often stopped trying at things in which I excel, because I don’t need to in order to succeed. Looking back had I had tried harder, I could have truly mastered a skill.  So in looking forward, my aim for the future is to always try an improve, no matter how good I am already. There is always more we can learn, be it from others or ourselves.

Block.

Today is one of those days, Im having a creative, mental and intellectual block.

I’m trying to produce a script for a biographical video and yet my mind cannot focus. The video is supposed to be talking about who I am, what I do, and what I will be doing in Peru; yet blank is the paper, as is my mind.

Over the last few days I have been assessing my creative vision, identifying my goals and re designing my brand in order to develop. Hopefully this year will turn out to be simply the most important and decisive in my life.

Instead of forcing myself and crushing my stressed mind, it’s time to relax and enjoy the sunshine. Tomorrow is another day, and tomorrow I shall produce a stunning piece of visual media… Or well I hope!

Creativity is intelligence having fun.

“Creativity is intelligence having fun.” ― Albert Einstein

As I moved through school I was put into the “intelligent” category, those young people who are predicted to get A/B’s at A level and follow on from school by studying at University, before taking up a “respectable” job.

Sadly I am not one of those people… I am intelligent, don’t get me wrong (AAB at A level)… but I am a creative; not a clone. The world that fascinates me is not the one in books or the one on the TV, it is the one I see with my own eyes.

I became fascinated with visual media in my early teens, my photography became a way for me to explore and share what I was witnessing. I will always have a passion for the complex science behind organisms and natural processes but as I have develop as a creative individual, I have started to understand the value that comes from knitting together science and media in order to create a powerful visual message. I turned down Uni in order to explore my creativity and build a life based upon something I feel passionate about.

Albert Einstein was a creative, a visionary and a true inspiration. Creativity is intelligence having fun… and being creative is what I do best.
